The Florida Tap Dance Project
Get Ready To Up Your Rhythm!
The Florida Tap Dance Project was conceived by Kayla Cowart, the Tap Girl of Florida, to stimulate creative industry in the tap dance community of St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida.
The Project is designed to exert the Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida’s collective influences on the tap dance circuit and to enhance the tap dance culture of the State of Florida throughout the Tampa Bay Region.
Its Florida initiative and local priorities reflects the input and involvement of 6 Tap Dancers; 4 Tap Dance Ensembles, 3 Prominent Dance Studios; 2 Corporate Sponsors, and community partners and stakeholders from 6 of Pinellas County’s largest municipalities.
Together the Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida have identified common goals that transcend county and city boundaries to a regional and statewide view that allows the Florida Tap Dance Project to unite tap dancers from around the State as champions of Florida’s tap dance industry.
Under the Florida Tap Dance Project, Kayla Cowart, The Tap Girl of Florida and Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida strive to elevate Florida’s performing arts and creative industry by developing strategies that advance the art form and further their cause to keep all of the mythos and magic of tap dance alive in their communities.

The Tap Dance Ambassadors of Florida values education. We are dedicated to elevating the history of tap dance and its contributions to the performing arts through education.
We educate the public to advance the rich tradition of tap through tributes to its tap dance legends, their roles in the evolution of tap, and their impact on tap dance throughout history.
We educate the community by celebrating tap dance to preserve and progress the customs of tap dance in Florida’s creative industry.
We educate audiences through performances and original works to enrich the urbanity of tap dance and move its culture forward in our own community.
We educate young and aspiring tap dancers to help them embrace their rhythm and enhance their tap dance experiences.
We educate ourselves by traveling the national circuit to study the art form and take advantage of tap dance workshops, conferences, and festivals with the Tap Dance Ambassadors of America.
